About
Welcome to “Mastering the Machine: Responsible Computing for Young Scholars,” a K–3 friendly digital literacy course for elementary students and their parents. Through short, guided lessons using age-appropriate activities, learners explore how computers and apps work, how to make safe choices online, and how to use AI tools responsibly with care and honesty. Designed by Mike Smith’s Computer Applications for Elementary Grades K-3 program, this course builds confidence while teaching practical habits: respectful communication, privacy basics, recognizing trusted information, and asking for help when something feels wrong. By the end, students can follow responsible computing routines, parents will know how to support safe learning at home, and everyone leaves with clear take-home guidance for the digital frontier.
